SLC27/W6 | Final Project "Channel Ready to Air"
Welcome to week 6 of the "Learn to Be a YouTuber" program!
You've all gone through the various stages of the previous lessons, from creating a channel, writing scripts, creating videos, building a professional appearance with branding and attractive thumbnails, and analyzing your own channel's progress.
This sixth, or final week, is the closing lesson or the culmination of the entire learning process. Participants are expected to have properly prepared their YouTube channels so they are truly ready to go live. Your channel is fully prepared in terms of long-term strategy, audience engagement, and consistency in your work.
Long-Term Strategy
If you want your YouTube channel to be successful and generate income, it's not just about one viral video, but about having a clear and sustainable direction.
There are several very important steps to consider:
- You must set a primary goal for your YouTube channel. For example, to meet the monetization requirements for your channel, you must aim to reach 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours within a year, and you must be consistent in uploading videos or collaborating with other creators.
- You must have a mission and a solid plan for the type of content you want to create on a regular basis. For example, you can adopt the same content model as other creators, such as:
| Week 1 | Daily vlog (still on the same theme as what you want to discuss on your YouTube channel) |
|---|---|
| Week 2 | Short educational content (still on the same theme as what you want to discuss on your YouTube channel) |
| Week 3 | Product review (still related to the theme you want to discuss on your YouTube channel) |
- You need to make a list of video ideas for the next few months so you don't run out of content. To find things that are currently trending, you can use Google Trends or the comments section to find inspiration for your content.
How to Attract and Retain Audiences
You also need to get viewers to come to your YouTube channel, but not just come—you have to keep them watching until the end.
There are several steps you can implement on your channel, including:
- You should use a short and interesting intro. Remember, the intro doesn't need to be long, just 5 seconds is enough for viewers to immediately understand the content of the video.
- Not only an intro, you also need to add an outro in the form of a call to action, such as asking viewers to like, comment, and subscribe.
- In your videos, you can use a style of language that is unique and matches your personality. This helps viewers easily recognize the characteristics of your channel.
- Check your video's performance in YouTube Studio: Check the Average Watch Time to see the average viewing time, review the Audience Retention Graph to identify which parts viewers like the most or which parts cause them to leave, and address the parts with a decline in viewership in future videos.
Maintaining Consistency
This may have been covered in the previous week, but it is very important for the growth of your channel. Here are some important things to note:
- Set a clear upload schedule. For example, you need to know when people usually watch videos, such as every Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m., when people are coming home from work or taking a break.
- You should use consistent and uniform visual templates such as intros, thumbnails, and outros to maintain your YouTube channel's identity.
- You need to establish a production routine. For example, if you make one video per week, you can adjust it as follows: on Monday, you spend time researching and writing the video script; on Tuesday/Wednesday, you record the video; on Friday, you spend time editing; and on Saturday, you upload the video.
- Don't forget to track your weekly progress in a small table showing the number of videos, views, and subscribers to monitor your progress.
Week 6 Assignment
1. Upload 1 Best Video
- Please create a landscape video that is at least 2 minutes long.
- Make sure that the video you create is well edited and ready for public viewing.
- The video should have an interesting title, a description that includes hashtags, and tags. The content should be relevant to the material from weeks 1 to 5.
2. You need to write a summary of your experiences from the previous five lessons
- What are the most valuable lessons you have learned from weeks 1 to 6?
- What were the biggest challenges you faced when making these videos?
- What are your plans for developing this channel in the future?
