Steem Cartoon : Cartoon & Us – Empowering and bridging the gap of old and new generations!

Today we had a class trip to the National Museum at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to visit the exhibition of Malaysian Cartoon where they show a various local comics and cartoons from the early days until now. This special exhibition will be held from 8 December to 15 April 2018. If you have some free time, please visit them, it is FREE!

This exhibition is supported by Malaysia Cartoon and Comic House, where they kept most of the local comics and cartoons and exhibit it all in one place located at Taman Botani Perdana, Kuala Lumpur.

Cartoon & Us not only display historical of cartoon, comics and animation but also a highly effective communication platform to deliver messages to the community. Most of the local cartoons are the reflection of everyday life of a Malaysian where there is humorous and intimidating manners while some are cynical and full of satire.

Culture and identity of Malaysia can be shared through comics and animations.

The exhibitions show some of the notable works from Ujang, APO, Lat, Lengkuas, Keluang Man, Batu Api, Kampung Boy, and many more! Most of the exhibition show a very details about the history and the meaning behind the art. You are also able to learn how the artists art style differs with each other make it unique but it doesn’t lose the Malaysian essences.

This is my first time seeing in front of me the award trophy for Anugerah Seri Angkasa, i usually see it on TV and never thought that it is actually very big to hold by hand.

They also show some of foreign comics too!

As for current generation of you may say as the youngster, our university (Multimedia University) are featured too at the exhibitions. Unfortunately my artwork are not display among it, but never mind. I know that my artwork is not that level yet. I will work harder to improve my art skills!

I also meet up with Mr C.Y @perennial , Co-Founder of Steem-Cartoon. He gave us some tips on steemit and also a t-shirt! It’s a nice T-shirt, thanks!

We are fortunate to have the legendary cartoonist, Jaafar Taib the founder of Gila-Gila magazine to guide us on the exhibition and share some of his experiences. We are also able to see a live drawing from him too! This gifted artist believes that humour is an essential element in cartoons.

He leaves us a message where even though the industry are now being conquered by westerners and Japanese comics, cartoons and animation, we must stay as Malaysians. If we stop making Malaysian art style, it will lost in the stream of modernity.

Last but not least, thanks to Mr. Sireh @sireh for bringing us to the exhibition. We are able to learn many new things and using it to keep improve our art skills and animation. His real name is Anuar Hassan, or his pen name known as "Sireh" is a well-known Malaysian cartoonist and also our favorite and beloved lecturer.

I love Japanese comics and cartoon but we also must support our own local industry. In this digital age, the industry is struggling to keep survive with the appearance of internet and piracy issues. So, please support them! Malaysia Boleh!
