My Journey

I sincerely feel that it is only polite if I introduce myself. My name is Ahmad Hilmy Abdullah. I am from the state of Kelantan in Malaysia. I love drawing and like many of my artist friends here in Malaysia, we did it out of passion. I started with a local magazine called Batu Api and my topic of interest in my drawings centred on campus and student life.

I am also an architect. I draw for a local daily, did some illustrations for advertising companies and production houses. When @sireh dragged me in, he told me that the entire exercise was to form a good support system for budding artists in Malaysia and I know he meant his students.

I can't help but admit that @sireh has in all his effort prioritise his students. I guess he also found his calling by lecturing in Malaysia Multimedia University.

My Plans

I know this is a paying platform but I do not fully understand its workings. I know there is this blockchain thing which is almost akin to the the internet revolution in the 90s. I am slow to accept and understand technology. I guess there is this technology gap somewhere.

These days the young artists are so good in drawing using Wacoms and their smart phones. I am old school. I enjoy the traditional pen and paper. I am in this not because it promises me money. At my age, it is not meaningful to chase material wealth. But what @sireh suggested, as a support system for his students and hopefully I get to learn a thing or two from these technology savvy kids.

I am all for learning.

There is an ongoing exhibition in the National Museum and I was lucky that the organisers gave me a small space for my work. I guess being in this field for a few decades does have its perks. Not much but the recognition is very much appreciated. I am here to give my fullest support to #steem-cartoon and its efforts. Hopefully we can unearth the next Datuk Lat.

I am also extremely proud that as cartoonists we do our part for one of us @aie who is fighting his own battle to regain his health. If this platform can be used for the betterment of the community, I am more than happy to be part of the family.
