Stacking goals for 2018

in #steamsilvergold8 years ago (edited)

Hey Steemies!

I hope your New Year celebrations were good, mine were lots of fun(details in my next post). Most people talk about new year resolutions that they are not likely to keep or work on for only a few short weeks, then feel bad for twice as long for not following thru, I don't do that. No resolutions, no feeling bad, if I really want to change something, I just do it when it crosses my mind. New year is a good time to set new goals tho, I suppose now that the party is over, it's a good time to think/talk about my #stackingoals.

Part of my goals obviously has to involve some precious metals, most of you stackers would probably look at my stack and say...Wow...Do you even stack?!? Reality is, it started off as getting a few coins as gift, slowly started buying some of the silver pieces I liked and next thing you know, I had a collection. Like much of you I caught the fever and as I researched it's history and influence on society, I was hooked and started stacking as well and the more I stack the more I re-evaluate my spending habits and try to cut out dumb things because it cuts into my stacking(what a blessing to make that realization at a somewhat early age).

Slowly, year after year, it's been growing, one bar or coin at a time. I don't feel comfortable disclosing specifics but it turned into a little nest egg that helps me sleep at night. I know many criticize us stackers ...that we are wasting our money...following a hype that will only disappoint...collecting barbarous relics. When I hear those words, I can't help but giggle to myself, it generally comes from people who go to the bar or fancy dinners often, pay a monthly $400 cell phone bill for their family's services. Seriously I'm sure my wasted $$ on metals has already maintained it's value over any of the previously mentioned since I can go sell them again at anytime needed.

Despite the criticism, I will continue on my journey. I'm still very much a collector and enjoy the hunt for bargains on RCM low mintage coin or semi numies and that will probably never stop, I do want to spend less on coins and more on bouillon tho. I'm silver heavy and would like to get more gold to balance things out, the only thing is I see more benefits from silver, gold is also expensive to buy a decent chunk without too much premium. Much of my stack is government issued bars, maybe 1/3 rd generic bars. Is there more reliability with government stamp when it comes to selling?

I'm at a point in my collection where I can start to finish sets of coins( it's a bit of a good feeling) I have completed a few already. My next quest is for the other two bad boys from RCM's " Star Charts" collection that I'm missing. This set of 4 coins showcases Native American astrology and legends. These coins where hard to photograph and the pictures do not do them justice, the beautiful painted design also glows in the dark. I cringe every time I see the price for this collection because they don't really drop much in price over time due to their popularity but I'm sure once I have the funds for them they shouldn't be to hard to find.

Another set of items on my wish list is the rest of the Queen's Beasts, I only have the 2 oz dragon for now, I hope to finish the set in time and perhaps get the 10 oz round dragon. Their design and small details takes this set out of this world, certainly on my top 5 favorite collections.

What do you think is a good silver/gold ratio to keep? why ?

Do you prefer government issued bars or generic?

Alright that's all for now folks, stack on ! xox

@ladybug146 You take amazing photos! Stacking really helped me trim some fat out of my spending habits as well. You are always comparing random items to ounces. I sometimes think, that random thing is 3 ounces, that's not worth it.

Now your questions, I am not a gold buyer. The gold / silver ratio is too high and I cannot justify buying gold. I usually buy governmint issued, but will pick up the occasional round if I like the design.

I compare thing to ounces too...amazing how it changes an outlook completely, for me it's not so much the cost of things, it's which i want more, the item or the silver...silver wins most of the time.

I think the ratio is too much too, why I'm silver heavy...I keep trying to work at it but end up with silver, maybe it's just meant to be that way. Thank you for stopping by and your feedback! happy new year :)

Some great stackingoals for the year!

I gotta agree that the Queen's Beast coins are very cool, I initially didn't pay them much attention and now I'm regretting that as I'm slowly trying to pay catch-up and pick more up!

I think historically the gold/silver ratio should be around 1:20, a return to something close to that would be good I think, but I want to buy more silver especially before that happens!
I've just started buying some gold and while it feels like you're getting less bang for your buck I would argue gold has an even deeper and richer history than silver. So with that in mind I've used crypto profits to buy some 1/10 gold coins and a few gram bars.

I much prefer government coins overall, but I know generic can often be had for a lower premium and I might try and explore some more generic options this year.

I try to get some 1/10th instead of waiting until I can get a full oz or half but i find the premiums way too high for anything smaller than a half oz, I try tho. I started getting gold last year, all I had was silver. I can agree with the 1:20 ratio for price, why I'm silver heavy but I also see more gain potential for industrial reasons versus gold is more to maintain value at this point. Like you said gold has a rich history , it's been the money of kings for a long time. Thank you for your feedback! Good luck with your stacking goals and chasing your beasts!!

Those are some very nice looking coins! Are you going to do any gold porn pictures as well?

Thanks, I might, gold is harder to photograph than silver, I need to practice a bit more.

beautiful photos the welsh dragon is my favourite of the set :)

Thank you! Yes the dragon is a beauty, also my favorite. I know someone who has the gold 1oz, it looks even better.

Sounds like some great goals, I have alot of stuff from the RCM, those star charts ones are pretty awesome and the queens beast are also one of my current favorites

RCM is great, expensive tho but I can't help myself! Thanks for stopping by @phelimint :)
