What is Statutory Sick Pay Calculator?

If you are an employer and your employee satisfies the qualifying conditions (sick and unable to work) for statutory sick pay, by law; you need to work on how much statutory sick pay (SSP) is due. Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) is calculated on the daily rate for employee by dividing the weekly rate by the number of QDs in that week. The standard rate of statutory sick pay is £89.35 per week. The amount of statutory sick pay can increase but it can’t be any less than £89.35 in a week. This is paid by employer and reclaimed by state. You will get Statutory Sick Pay for up to 28 weeks in any period of incapacity to work (PIW).

Eligibility for Statutory Sick Pay

Most of the employee qualifies for Statutory Sick Pay. To be eligible for SSP, an employee needs to:

• You must have an employment contract.
• An employee has completed some work for their employer before being taken ill.
• You must be off sick and unable to work for four or more consecutive days.
• Make their employer aware that they are unwell within 1 week or prior to their employer’s own deadline.
• This is not paid for the first three qualifying days in any period of incapacity for work.
• Have average weekly earn a minimum of £112 weekly.

How to claim Statutory Sick Pay

To claim for Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) depends on your employer, you need to talk to your employer or make a request in writing or fill the SC2 form by their deadline or within seven days of being off work. In any case if your employer doesn’t compromise, you will be treated as “not fit for work”.

The rate of Statutory Sick Pay is sets by Government and for an employee and currently fixed amount is £89.35 per week and will pay till 28th weeks in a year.
