Statues Bearing Fruit

One of the sections in our shop Conquest Comics that stands out to customers is without a doubt, our high end collectibles like our statues and busts. With over 1200 pieces lining the cases, they are surely a sight to see. Not only do we carry the newest and hottest lines from multiple manufacturers, but we also focus on older hard to find pieces that are rarely even seen online...let alone in a collectibles shop.

Most of these pieces are part of a limited run and are individually numbered on the base. Limited pieces mixed with crazed collectors equals a recipe that allows for the right pieces to skyrocket in value over time. Lots of factors play a part in a piece shooting to the moon. Supply and demand for starters. Sometimes is as simple as how a piece looks. Regardless of the how and why, it’s a pretty cool feeling to purchase a piece for let’s say...$300 bucks and then watch it rocket to be a $1200 piece. It’s quite the rush!!!

Now not all pieces do this obviously. There are plenty of examples where the exact opposite happens. But that’s a topic for another day. I will cover some of the bigger duds though in the future. Lord knows I have a handful of those in my cases as well. But today...it’s about positivity. So I’m going to share a handful of the better performers that have produced some tasty fruit.

Let’s take a look at a few of these badboys that have risen the ranks here in their cases...

DC COLLECTIBLES BOMBSHELLS AQUAMAN STATUE

qponnzywq9.jpg

Continuing in the tradition of the pinup style Bombshells of the olden days, DC Collectibles decides to break the mold from the females and tried a dude on for size. This line of statues is super popular amongst collectors with sexy versions of Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Hawkgirl, and basically any vixen they can create...including Vixen. So when they went ahead and added Aquaman to the mix, lots of collectors initially passed leaving a hole in their collections...and we all know how anal collectors can be. Therefore in the past year or so, this piece has slowly started to disappear from any places that initially stocked it where it’s landing in eager collectors hands. It initially was released with a $125 retail price and currently brings in between $300-$400 bucks. Not too bad for a piece only released a couple of years ago.

SIDESHOW COLLECTIBLES TOOTHLESS STATUE

When this was initially offered up for sale several years ago, it took a bit of convincing him to agree to ordering it. My thought was that we didn’t have a bunch of How to Train Your Dragon merchandise in the shop and what little we did have sold well. With a low edition size, being a cute dragon, and an entry price point of just $250, I saw room for growth. Fast forward a few years later and this fire breathing bastard now brings in between $800-$1100 bucks when they move!!!

FIRST 4 FIGURES METROID PHAZON SUIT SAMUS STATUE

Now this is a piece that we initially bought based on it being totally badass. Incorporating some lights into a statue in a clever way can translate to an instant hit. That’s exactly what happened here. First 4 Figures offered this Metroid piece up about a decade ago and I knew it was gonna move. I believe we ordered 3 or 4 of them initially as the retail price was a measly $225 bucks. Crazy how low statues were entering the market at just a short decade ago compared to the butt raping that happens now. Anyway, this piece lights up as you can see, and when you turn it off...it powers down slowly allowing the light to dim off with a super cool effect. The end result?!? Down to our last piece which I’m ok with as these now sell for around $1500 beans!!!

SIDESHOW COLLECTIBLES STAR WARS SAVAGE OPRESS PREMIUM FORMAT STATUE

While talking about statues that light up, I’ll quickly cover this dark asshole. Star Wars Savage Opress. A character I know literally NOTHING about besides he looks like a true badass...and like Darth Maul. His saber lights up and it looks super sharp when illuminated. Retail was $400 on this upon release several years back and today he sells for $800-$1000 on average. Tasty!!!

KOTOBUKIYA SDCC EXCLUSIVE BLACK WIDOW BISHOUJO

ljrrxdr9u4.jpg

This one is kinda a cheat as it was an Exclusive to the San Diego Comic Con back in 2009, but it’s a cool piece that HAS beared fruit so I figured why not. Initially this was sold at the con for $60 bucks I believe. Immediately it was a $100-$200 dollar piece as we sold a bunch of these shortly after the con. Luckily this line is extremely popular amongst completists so there will always be crazy bastards willing to drop $500-$800 bucks on this tiny vinyl beauty.

SIDESHOW COLLECTIBLES STAR WARS LIFE SIZE SALACIOUS CRUMB STATUE

m4ac0975io.jpg

Life size collectibles are usually a bit of a tougher sell as they take up a ton of room. Unless they are of a tiny alien creature that can fit on your bookshelf. Enter...Salacious Crumb. That little piece of shit chillin at Jabba’s palace. Back when this was initially released by Sideshow, they were retailing for $425 a pop. I knew that rabid Star Wars fans would eat this up over time with the low edition size and the fact that it is cool. Today...it’ll bring in between $1500-$2000...and it’ll make you appear to be a giant creep if displayed in your house.

SIDESHOW COLLECTIBLES DOCTOR DOOM PREMIUM FORMAT STATUE

468c5m7tbg.jpg

Ahhhhhh...my favorite statue on the planet. The ol’ Sideshow Doom on Throne Exclusive. It’s hard to believe that at one point I had 11 of these. Today...just this last one. I first saw this in person on display at the 2003 San Diego Comic Con. I immediately pre ordered a bunch as the level of detail on the throne was unmatched at the time. I simply...fell in love. It initially set me back $320 beans. The last one I ended up selling was about 4 years back for $2700 bucks. Today the exclusive can command anywhere from $2500-$4000 depending on the market at that moment. This is a blue chip stock in the statue world that I feel will always command top dollar. I will only get rid of this last one if I got around $4000 cash for it. No other way.l this bad boy leaves my possession.

There are tons of other pieces that I could lump into this write up...perhaps I’ll do a part 2 one day. Or even the biggest duds...that’ll be a fun one!!!

Thanks for taking a virtual stroll with me folks.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Doctor Doom climb even higher in the future as I reckon the Fantastic Four will enter the MCU sooner rather than later.

Then there's the way Disney loves to milk every last ounce of mileage from a franchise. There's a strong chance Savage Opress will pop up in something new too.

Man, the sad part is is that I can guarantee you there's some greasy redditor out there buying busts like these and then blowing a load onto them to upload to the cumonfigurine subreddit. Those poor, poor, crusty statues.

I've got that Savage Opress exclusive, been getting a shit ton of hits.
