How many users are on Seemit?steemCreated with Sketch.

in #stats7 years ago (edited)

Meetups get me thinking about the community and how we have grown since the last meetup so I pulled together some interesting stats this morning on the number of accounts on Steemit and how they have been developing.

Complete Profiles

We hear many figures for the number of users on Steemit, largely based on the number of accounts but I would like to draw to peoples attention that this metric is a bit misleading

  • many people create several accounts
  • many set up an account but never use it
  • people also set up shared accounts.

Account Creation

The following graph shows the number of accounts created per day since the beginning of Steemit.

Number of Accounts

The Red line is the total number of accounts and the coloured lines is the subset of those accounts that have added a Profile Picture, Name or location.

Completed Profiles

The following graphs zooms in on the profiles that contain more details than just the default.

From inspection people generally fill out all the profile if they filling out any of it. Currently about 10% of accounts have a fairly complete profile.

Is this a more reliable guide to how many users are currently on Steemit?

@steem-dublin

It's almost time for the next Steemit Meetup in Dublin. This monthly event has been great fun in the past and I am looking forward to seeing some new faces tomorrow. Please join us if your in Dublin.

Edit:

Some additional graphs:

Log scale split of completed profiles

This graph generally shows that most people who take the time to complete their profile for any item generally complete it with a link, photo and description.

Accounts

This graph shows the number of Steemit account with a little Loess smoothing.
Definitely a positive trend in 2017!

Thank you for reading this. I write on Steemit about Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, Travel and lots of random topics.

Thanks so much. Great to hear from you. I hope your keeping well.

Interesting. You don't know how many user accounts are now created in numbers? Recently saw something about 350,000 users. Is that so? Seems like something not very much. I thought they were a lot more people.

I have a list of 385k accounts at the moment. We are still a small community but growing fast.

I think after the recent news will soon be a large increase in users.

I would say steemit is growing too fast. I didn't expect to be that much in quite a short time. Especially in the place where I live.

Steemit is a blog that is very useful for everyone I think, because in addition to get a reward, here we also were taught how to be a good writer. And I am very sure that sooner or later a user will increase from steemit residents in parts of the world. We can see it from a development evidenced by steemit these last few months. Thank you @eroche over his post, very useful.

Its progress though. Considering how new the site is the growth in recent months is huge. Spreading awareness is the big thing. Until i came across the site through crypto not one of my friends had ever heard of it.

It's quite impossible to know how many actual users there are in Steemit, sadly, if you just want to count off double accounts, bots or inactive users. However two things are important:

  1. Steemit is full of live, as it is filled with active users.
  2. It is growing.

These two make sure Steemit will stay with us for longer and has possibilities to achieve almost anything. We can never know what the future will bring to us.

How about the total and daily / weekly / monthly active user counts? Aren't those also very interesting?

They sure are and very positive. Which sources are you using for these. It would be useful to link them here. Nice username by the way. 😀

The user @penguinpablo is posting daily and weekly usage figures, here's the latest post by him https://steemit.com/steem/@penguinpablo/steem-stats-report-september-29-steem-usd1-42-active-users-31-412

Now at 30,000 daily users. A nice figure but compared to the big blogging and social media platforms that is a drop in the ocean.

I agree, I have been exploring different metrics over the last few months. Steemit is quite unique because bots and automated accounts are playing a significant role in it compared to other platforms. I have been exploring different ways at getting a handle on the real users and tracking them for some time. I don't think any one statistic tells the complete story so its good to have stats from many sources. I think the one I looked at today is quite revealing as a statistic. Lets watch this space!

I applaud any effort to eliminate bots from the stats, or at least highlight their influence. That way we may inspire the Steem guys to work on ways to discourage the frivolous ones out there purely to game the system. Just think how much worse it could be with Smart Media Tokens, bots everywhere trying to scam the system.

Just an idea... Maybe there is a pattern in how bots manage their wallets. So they programmatically drain them as soon as STEEM is available? Do they comment or post at precise intervals as soon as they can? I'm guessing most of them fall into the upper 5 or 1% of posters too. A graph of # of accounts Vs posting frequency could be very interesting.

You always do the best, thank for share it @eroche
have a nice day

Warm Regard from Aceh

I hope it becomes the best site
Thank you for sharing it

a very nice post friends, I also just made a post, please come in ...

Due to the difference in scales, any chance we could see the same graphs in log scale?

I have added some additional graphs which you may be interested in. I am going to follow up with a post tomorrow with these accounts segmented by duration since last activity. I don't know what that will look like but I am sure it will be an interesting analysis.

Sure I'll add a few more graphs to the post after work. It would also be helpful to zoom in on the last few months.
