Statewars - Texas - The other side of the state

People say a lot of things about Texas. "Only steers and queers come out of Texas," they say. Even people who love the state (@gniksivart) point out standard symbols and things that Texas is known for, but you really don't hear a lot about the other side of Texas. The technologically advanced, cutting-edge, and even tasty side of the state. Let me mention a few examples.

Example one.... NASA

The one and only. The NASA. There's a reason people use the phrase "Houston, We have a problem". Houston, Texas, is the center for NASA. From experimental rocket planes to the international space station...NASA has pioneered space exploration...not to mention the 100's of technological advancements we use every day (velcro, microwaves, etc.) that were just side projects begun by NASA.

Example two...Oil

Love it or hate it, but the oilfield is huge in the South, specifically Texas. Black Gold. Like cigarette's it's current role in society isn't necessarily clean and innocent, but no one can deny that it has revolutionalized our world. The entire state seems to be involved in one way or another and you'd be hard-pressed to live there without knowing someone who works in the industry.

Example three... FOOD!

Sure, Texas is famous for certain foods. Chili. BBQ. Texas isn't all about these though. In recent years major cities have become mechas for foodies. Truly good food is being made here and top chefs around the world are noticing.

I might have focused a bit on the south/southeast on these examples...but hey, I'm from Houston.
