Stan Lee

Stan Lee has passed away.

He created Marvel Comics, before that he ran Timely comics. Those two entities alone are the home core foundation for maybe 75% of today's pop culture. Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Spider Man, X-men, every single Marvel Super hero past and present. More than that, he revived and completely changed the genre of "super heroes". His super heroes where not mythical unaffected beings of pure heroism, they were flawed, in over their heads at times, scared at times, and at times they failed.
By writing them in such a way, he revived and breathed new life into the comic book industry. More than that he made household names of a seemingly endless list of talent that went on to create characters, and even companies of their own.

You get just one lifetime to do as much as you can.

In one lifetime Stan Lee changed the entire world.

When you start to grasp the number of people he made to feel less lonely, less outcast, gave a brief respite from life to...all the people who he inspired among countless fields to make use of their imaginations and to try to be heroes and let know it is okay to try but fall short...in one lifetime he changed the course of human history.

That's as fantastic as any story he ever wrote,

Sort:

Stan Lee is one of those people where you stop and wonder that there ever was a 'before' in their sphere of endeavour. Yes, there were comics before Timely started up, but not comics.
Shameless self-promoter and general odd-ball too, of course! Did the newspaper editor in Spiderman always look like Stan?

That a wonderful way of putting it. To my mind, before Stan...there were many great comic makers, many great characters, many great stories. The difference in before and aft is that they were making comics and Stan was creating worlds.

He's truly a giant and an icon. What a great life and a legacy he left behind.

Excelsior!

the legacy is mind boggling. For shear volume of work that had a profound affect on the world, he's done more than Mark Twain, Shakespeare, Homer, Hemingway and Dickens combined

I read about that only now, what a big loss for us all =(

Really sad news. R.I.P Stan Lee.

I just heard :(

He was a giant

RIP

#EXCELSIOR
