This things people never used correctly
There are so many answers here already, so excuse me if I’m a bit unoriginal here while I rant about these things:
Mini roundabouts. Not overbouts or cutacrossabouts.
You don’t go right through the middle of these or go in the complete opposite direction. That’s how accidents happen.
This is a concept very few drivers seem to be able to grasp. At least one in every three times I’ve come across a mini roundabout, whether on my bike or as a passenger, the cars either fail to give away, drive over the white circle, fail to give away or come in at ridiculous speeds.
I can’t describe how fast it sends your heart racing when you’re nearly taken off your bike by some yob coming right through his/her junction.
Scenario 1
Alan is approaching a mini roundabout at quite a speed. The road ahead is not a blind junction, meaning he has no excuse not to perceive oncoming traffic. He sees another car approaching the junction and speeds up, but the car gets to the roundabout before him, meaning he has to give way. This doesn’t matter to Alan, who slams on his horn as he nearly crashes into the car. He proceeds to shout every swear word he can think of.
Scenario 2
Emma reaches a roundabout and stops at the give-way markings. Another car stops at the junction opposite her. Emma and the car both go at the same time. Everything should go safely, except Emma cuts right through the roundabout instead of following the clockwise markings like a normal person, and ends up crashing into other car. She proceeds to scream her head off.
I’m glad more and more people are uploading footage of themselves.
Mini roundabouts are the bane of every dashcammer’s existence, especially here in Britain, where the average driver has the reaction speed of a potato.
