She had been there for 9 years and she definitely did not need a last look.
Man slaughter they had called it. But to her, it had been the step to freedom. A needed step after 5 years of marital abuse. Oh, he had not touched her that particular night, but she had seen it in his eyes and she had not given him a chance to.

She had not been able to get a good lawyer to help her case and had only been convicted because of lack of evidence of the abuse. They had said she should have reported him to the authorities. But what good could that have done? His family had all the right connections and it would have only ended as a slap on the wrist.

She still remembered the look on his eyes when he had seen the gun. One shot had sealed the deal.
