GENERATIONAL PROBLEMS IN MY COUNTRY

in #stach6 years ago

Our forefathers were called savage beings.
Sub-humans not worthy of recognition by those who came to invade our lands.
With lines and rules did they divide and conquer
With words and toys did they ship us to yonder.
Yet when freedom came, we turned our way
And with our own hands enslave ourselves

Africa, an anomaly some may say, a place where the majority of the people with melanin-rich skin reside and the number one area when it comes to cultural heritage. For years now, since the end of the colonial era, africans have continued to suffer, they have continued to have their minds caged and their lives in shackles.

It is surprising that despite the constant turmoils that battle us each day at home in africa, the telecommunication sectors and entertainment sectors of several countries in the continent continue to boom.

For years now, the light of nations across africa, its youths ,have been reduced to mere social media celebrities, slay queens and kings. While these may not be an issue, the problem is the masking effect it causes.
An individual who cares not for the future of his/her country, but waits in line for the next mobile device to come out not only is a bad example of a youth, but its a worst reflection of what the future leaders and generations look like.

The mind. . . . is caged, caged in a prison of sex, drugs and money, while caring little for the future of their countries. Caged in a prison of small mindedness and lack of vision. Caged in a prison of the so called ‘’hustling lifestyle’’

What we see as a normal thing, is simply a systematic way of separating the youths from the power they hold as the key to a nations success and growth by the elite and government officials.

The governments steal billions and the case is swept under a rug, the focus of the youths are shifted to the latest entertainment news.

So tell me why we, after more than 100 years of colonization, independence and projection. Tell me why after all these time, we as africans still remain stuck in the muds of economic instabilities.

I suppose if we are to ever be free as a continent, we must be willing to have individuals who break away from the normal routine of "see and keep shut", individuals who hold nothing from the government.

Nigeria should embark in a movement, a movement to separate the intellectuals from the grasp of the government, and empower them to the tunes of financial responsibility.

Action, reaction, input, output, knowledge, and the lack thereof. It is said that the more knowledgeable the people are, the more likely they are to challenge any poor or bad decisions that may be taken. Enlightenment of the masses is the first step to making a meaningful economy output.

I have no idea what the future holds, but I know that the future holds greatness for those who who wish it upon themselves
