Evening friends.....

Got a call early this morning from a very good friend of mine. He was in need of some help.

It required some of my finish carpentry skills and MacGiver like knowledge.

My friend wanted a small secret hiding spot put somewhere in his house. He lives alone and the house isn’t very big, but it is in a high end town. He has a nice size lot but a small very old house.

He bought it thinking if he ever decided to get married and have a family he would just build a new bigger house on it.

There have been three break-ins, in the last two months in his town. All of them where homes that no one was home during the day.

So I drove over this afternoon to figure out where to put this hiding spot. As I stated the house is extremely old and has all plaster walls, which made things much more difficult.

I gave him several wall options but he really didn’t want to buy a wall safe or go through the mess of installing it.

So being the craftsman that I am, what better space to hide something then in the kitchen.....

No I’m not talking about in the freezer, or in empty coffee cans. That’s too well known. So I asked what size space you looking for?

He said big enough to fit a small firesafe. I went on-line and we found the dimensions of the one he wanted. Now comes the MacGiver part.......

I told him that I was going to make a removable kick plate in one of his cabinets. He said perfect!!!!

So I chose the easiest accessible cabinet in his kitchen hidden by walls so no one could ever see him going in it. Then I got to work.

The first thing I needed to do was get the kickplate off without damaging the sides of the cabinet. So I grabbed my set of chisels and a hammer and went to work.

Nice and clean. I put my box set of chisels in to show you the size.

I drilled holes just deep enough to glue neodymium rare earth magnets into both the kickplate and the cabinet. Sorry forgot to take pictures.

You can’t tell that kickplate comes off and it’s a great idea if you need a spot.

Another on the job training with Silverd510.

I am still in doubt whether or not to store some of the gold in house rather than in the bank safe deposit. The deposit is 180 EUR per annum and fully insured but I never see my gold.

If there is a collapse you wont be able to get it either. Thats why I use a private security place

WOW... that is so cool, bestie!!!

Oh now- that is a mighty cunning hiding spot!!
