Christmas Day Recap

Christmas Day at my house is always epic.

During the wee hours of Christmas Eve things kick off with a visit from Santa Claus. I am not sure what time he sneaks in and out. However, Christmas morning we always wake up to find stockings filled with gifts. Even the dachshunds get treats from Santa!

After Santa gifts, we headed to my aunt and uncle’s home for breakfast. They live in my grandparent’s old house so I’ve been having breakfast Christmas mornings there since 1974. The family the comes through has shifted over the years, but this year we had us, my parents, my dad’s sisters, their husbands, kids and grandkids.

After breakfast and present opening with my extended family, we headed home for a break at lunch. I am not sure how this happened, but it was nice to relax some mid day. After the Christmas intermission we got back in the car to go to mom and dad’s.

Here it was just us, our dogs, mom, dad and my 95 year old maternal grandmother. Who by the way still lives on her own, drives herself to breakfast at Sherri’s most days and enjoys a cocktail or two each night! At mom and dad’s there were more gifts to be opened!

Then it was time for dinner. We have the same on Christmas as on Thanksgiving. Each year we feast on turkey, stuffing, green beans, a special mashed then baked potato, cranberry sauce and apple pie for dessert.

Dinner and festivities went pretty late. So we didn’t end up opening the presents under our tree at home until the 26th! I kind of loved dragging out the holiday a bit.
