Why is sports such an integral part of my life? Why Have I dedicated so much time and effort in order to learn and master the game? Well the answers to those two questions are multifold, but I'll try to do them justice in just a couple of short paragraphs.

Sports as a Medium of Inspiration

I remember back in the day when there was no television in our house, but one of my neighbors had one and the whole community (during major games) would sit around their house to watch a football match. We all followed the sport so religiously and would support our respective teams with all our heart. Even during tough financial times, sport made us forget all our problems and diverted all our attention on the game. Sports makes us believe in the impossible. It makes us believe that there is always a way to get out of a seemingly impossible situation and turn out to be victorious. Whether the opposition is a behemoth powerhouse dominating their opponents, a moment of brilliance from a team is enough to make history. Its this amazing aspect of sport that makes us question even the most dire of circumstances by asking 'Why not?' It gives us hope and that is humanity's most pivotal facet.

Sports as a True Representation of Human's Competitive Nature

The principles of survival are instilled deep into the human psyche by evolution. I believe, In a world of limited resources competition is an emergent concept. Without competition the species would have long been extinct. Though some would take this fact to be highly primitive, that we are no longer in a position to fight for a living. But that is not true. Life has always been about survival, to make the most out of the environment in order to live better. But what makes sports different from just survival is the fact that we honor and respect our fellow sportspersons. Even when we lose the game we still applaud the other team for their success and respect their victory. In spite of the numerous corruption scandals flooding the news today, athletes still give their strongest performances on the field and continue to strive for excellence game after game. Its this determination and hardwork which is derived from our competitive nature that keeps us going and hoping that it'll eventually payoff.

Brazil's Humiliating Defeat At The Hands of Germany

One of the most defining moment in football history which I personally encountered was during the semi-final of the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil. It was a match between the hosts Brazil and Germany. It was also one of the most one-sided match that I've seen. Before the start of the game, the stadium was lively with fans from both countries cheering wildly and singing their national songs. But as the match started and progressed through the first 20 minutes, the fate was already sealed for Brazil. The Brazilian defense was shattered time and time again with the German Striker Klose destroying the opposition. The match ended with a humiliating 7-1 defeat to Brazil and the worst scoreline ever witnessed in World Cup history. The faces and reactions of the Brazilian fans was truly heart breaking. Plenty had left by half time and the rest were just shocked at what just happened.
I felt privileged to be present to support my team 'Germany' and to witness history being made.

Feedback: I've been following @steemsports ever since I joined this platform (which was a week ago) and I like reading their posts on various sports which I have not had the liberty of knowing. It has been informative and also interesting to read about the latest news and reviews of matches. One of the things that I love about the posts is that every new writer brings his own zeal and his fondness for that sport which clearly echoes through the post.

One Thing which I would like to see is live commentary of sports matches. I'm not sure how that could be accomplished here, but that would be a great initiative and would help bring this community together :)
