President Jokowi: U-16 AFF Cup Champion Becomes the Most Beautiful Independence Anniversary Gift

President Joko Widodo congratulated the success of the Indonesian Under-16 national team winning the 2018 AFF Cup 2018. Jokowi called this title the most beautiful gift before the Indonesian Independence Day.

Indonesia appeared as the AFF U-16 2018 championship after defeating Thailand in the final match at the Gelora Delta Stadium, Sidoarjo, Saturday (08/11/2018). The team nicknamed Garuda Asia won a penalty shootout after both teams were as strong as 1-1 in normal time.

This is Indonesia's first title in the Under-16 AFF Cup competition. This title was also obtained a few days before the Independence Anniversary which falls on August 17, 2018.

Through his official Twitter account, President Jokowi congratulated the success of Fakhri Husaini's forces.

"Young Garuda is unstoppable on a green field. Tonight the Indonesian national team won the U-16 AFF Cup defeating Thailand in a match at the Gelora Delta Stadium, Sidoarjo," Jokowi wrote.

"Congratulations to the players and trainers. This title is the most beautiful gift for Indonesia ahead of Independence Day," he said.
