Manchester City win 6-1 over Huddersfield Town in the second week of the Premier League 2018/2019. Pep Guardiolam's manager revealed the change in tactics he did.
Last season at the Etihad, City were held to a draw at Huddersfield. Shown dominate at the time, Sergio Aguero et al were silenced without a goal for 90 minutes.
From that appearance, Guardiola changed his approach when facing Huddersfield at Etihad on Sunday (8/19). The host wins 6-1.
Sergio Aguero recorded a hat-trick, plus three goals from Gabriel Jesus, David Silva and the suicide of Terence Kongolo. The visitors only booked one goal through Jon Stankovic.
Guardiola claimed to change his tactics by playing two strikers namely Aguero and Jesus in a 3-1-4-2 formation. Unlike last season, where he played Sane, Jesus, Aguero in a 4-3-3 formation.
"We were very troubled last season against Huddersfield. We have a problem to attack. Defending opponents with four or five behind, or deep enough, even strikers go deep to help the defensive midfielder," Guardiola explained on the club's official website.
"Last season, we were able to attack once or twice, but not much. We decided to play with two strikers to get more into the penalty box, knowing we now have [Benjamin] Mendy. He is smart, can feed the goalkeeper forward, point penalty or in the penalty box. He's smart enough. "
Today, it works but it doesn't mean every time. We will play that way. It depends on our players and the players who play. The way we attack and our desires without the ball, "he explained.
These results bring City still perfect in the English League. They collected six points and topped the standings thanks to goals from Chelsea, Watford, Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth.
