Spring Across Different Religions and Spirituality

in #spring3 months ago

#kevät on täällä 🍀 #spring holiday starts here in finland. some snow left in front of our home, but it'll all melt as temp goes up and be washed away by spring rain :) as per finnish protestant lutheran evangelical christian tradition tomorrow friday (pitkäperjantai) all the way resurrection sunday and #easter monday (pääsiäispäivä) are official non-working public holidays.

in christianity, this week marks the "passion of jesus christ" and depending on your church denomination, country, history, tradition, narrative, sacred texts, leadership and hierarchy, beliefs, teachings, theology, doctrine, interpretation, language and culture, personal religious and spiritual experience, you would surely have particular prayers, praise and worship, utterances, disciplines, devotions, rituals, ceremonies, and observations.

relatedly, this springtime holidays also actually coincides with many other religious-spiritual traditions. say for instance, among jews its the time for the "pesach". for muslims, this time of the year coincides with the "ramadan". for hindus, the start of spring heralds the "holi". for buddhists, especially in southeast asia, its time for "songkran". for taoists, springtime coincides with the birthday of teacher lao tzu. in zoroastrianism, arguably the first monotheist religion in the middle east even older than judaism, this time of the year is the "nowruz" or the start of the new year.

we can even say that in bygone unrecorded history, based on the dwelling places and artefact left by our prehistoric ancestors, early mankind marks the spring equinox, at least in this side of the world with 4 seasons, with such importance and significance. indeed, then and now, the start of the spring season is very symbolic. a time to be reborn, to rejoice, to be alive! hyvää pääsiäistä 💖
