Spotlight Art Contest #1 - The Pot of Life!

in #spotlight7 years ago

Many people, Nigerians especially must have heard about “The Pot of Life”. The stories behind this pot of life have been transformed through various dramas and songs to tell the rich culture of the Midwest and Eastern parts of Nigeria.

The ceaseless triumph of good over evil is one of the main morals each story portrays. One prominent version of this story is the classic 90s movie (Pot of Life) about Aimiuwu, the daughter of a poor man who was sent into the evil forest where no human can go in and come back alive to bring back to the king the pot of life that would save the land from an epidemic.

my visit to the historic site.

She was chosen not by any criteria of expertise, but because she was from a poor background. Aimiuwu went into the evil forest with an open heart and faced several challenges-physical and spiritual, but was helped by the spirits that were supposed to kill her, and she brought the pot of life to the village and saved her community from the outbreak of the epidemic.

Many movies have portrayed the pot of life as a small earthen pot with an egg or a secret recipe inside, potent enough to change the course of history positively. The pot, having an infusion of proverbs and ancient historical beliefs has been preserved through many generations as a source and course of life. It is undoubtedly believed that the pot of life has life in it and also gives answers to everyone who seek.

This entry shows the pot of life in another cultural tale as the spring from where life flows. It is depicted to mean the source that never runs dry; as the outpour from it never ceases. It is a site in the Olumo Rock Tourist Complex believed to still have the potent powers it is known for. Visitors come and make wishes before the Pot of Life with a coin tossed into it.

The believe still stands as it was in ancient times that the pot provides anything you seek.
