Did Spotify TV exist?

in #spotify4 years ago

Spotify, the best music streaming service in the world, has a very strict culture that doesn't allow its employees to talk about the inside of the company to anyone.

Daniel Ek, the CEO of Spotify, created a team for getting underway his secret project that was called "Spotify TV". The team consisted of only 75 people at first, and Daniel and his co-founder Martin Lorentzon wanted to create a platform that has not only music but also videos and some other things to differentiate its service from any other music apps.

Spotify TV was supposed to enable us to watch live news, sports, TV series, and movies. When the prototype was ready to work, Daniel asked his people to gather at the office and show how it worked.

It worked perfectly. They were able to change channels without the Internet connection being bad. Now they need to get contracts with TV companies to get contents.

But when they started making their own hardware, they noticed that the cost to do this business is ridiculously high especially to broadcast live sports.

And the team was broken up and the project was over. Daniel's dream was not become real, but his spirit to try new things leads him to be one of the greatest business man in the world.
