Yesterday saw the start of the 2020 six nations Championship, with defending champions Wales started the 2020 Six Nations with a comfortable 42-0 victory over Italy. The six nations kicked off in Cardiff this year with Wales taking on the Azzurri in what would be Wayne Pivac's first Test match in charge.

New coach Pivac had talked about an evolution rather than revolution as he followed on from Warren Gatland's successful 12-year reign. With a whole new coaching set up, could this new-look coaching team pick up where their predecessors left off?? One thing for sure is that the new coaching staff promised a more attack minded focus, and there were glimpses of a more expansive attacking style developing as the game played out.

A hat-trick from wing, Josh Adams, and further tries from new cap Nick Tompkins and George North set up a very comfortable victory at the principality stadium here in Cardiff. The rest of the points came from outside-half Dan Biggar, who added a further 13 points after being given the goalkicking duties ahead of regular kicker - Leigh Halfpenny.

Josh Adams was the beneficiary of some breath taking free-flowing first half rugby, that saw head coach, Wayne Pivac, deliver on his promise to play a wider expansive style of rugby. Adams continues to build on his success at the 2019 World Cup, which he finished as top try scorer with seven. The Cardiff Blues wing now has scored 10 tries in his past eight internationals and 14 in 22 Tests in his career.

Victory saw the hosts equal their record of eight successive Six Nations victories, stretching back to March 2018 and sit comfortably on top of the current six nations table:

Wales have a much tougher test next week as they face Ireland in Dublin on Saturday, 8 February.

Ireland got off to a winning but unimpressive start as they earned a fortunate 19-12 Six Nations win over Scotland, after Scottish captain Stuart Hogg was found to have dropped the ball over the Irish try line after a T.M.O. (third match official) review.

Some solid foundations built by Wales gives me hope that were heading in the right direction and that we may still be in with a shout at winning this year's competition.

The future looks bright under this attack minded coaching set-up, but the Welsh definitely started against the weakest team in the tournament. I'll reserve my full judgement till next week when Ireland will be a totally different opponents and a much tougher test.

Wales has the players to win it all, but coaching changes always make me double-take. This is really a test of whether they can transition into a new era with a new playing style.
