I love going to H.S. football games as well.
Most of these young men play the game, for the pure joy of the competition.
I taught with a gentleman, Greg Toal for over 30 years, and we became close friends.
In 33 years as a head coach, Greg Toal racked up a 305-55-2 record.
This is one great guy who could motivate a slog to run the 100 yard dash.
Just a few of his accomplishments would include:
River Dell HS
State Championship 1985, 1987
Hackensack HS
State Championship 1992, 93, 94, 95, 96
Don Bosco Prep HS
State Championship 2002, 03, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11, 15
While at Don Bosco Prep, his team won two National Championships, in 2009 and again in 2011.
What is not to love about HS football.
My cousin Steele Divitto played inside linebacker for him at Bosco and then played LB for Boston College. Got signed by the Jets but didn’t make it.
Two of Greg's boys, Gregory and Brian, attended Boston College.
Gregory was a fullback and Brian inside linebacker as well. Brian also scored a couple of touchdowns. They would give him the ball when they were down on the goal line, and more times than not when he was handed the ball, he ended up in the end zone.
His other son went to William and Mary and was a receiver for four years.
Great way to go to college, all three boys went on a full scholarship.
Quite the accomplishment even getting a shot at the big leagues like that! Good for your cousin even if he didn’t make it.
