Today in Sports History: Disney Buys A Baseball Team

in #sports6 years ago (edited)

I guess the title Angles in the Outfield was no accident after all.

On May 18th, 1995 The Walt Disney Company announced it would be buying 25% of the then California Angels baseball team. The team was soon named the Anaheim Angels in 1997.

Walt Disney himself served on the board of directors from 1960 to 1966, and under Disney's ownership they won their first World Series in 2002, defeating the San Francisco Giants 4-3.

Disney sold the Angels in 2003 to Arte Moreno, making him the first Hispanic person to ever own a major sports team in America. He changed the name to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2005.

They are currently called the Los Angeles Angels.
