Today In Sports: August 14th

Today is a double whammy of sports knowledge, and it ranges over two sports...baseball and basketball.

The first is simple; today is Magic Johnson's 58th birthday! The leader of the '92 Dreamteam, a 5x NBA Champion and 3x NBA MVP, Magic's contributions to basketball are no small deal and for basketball buffs like myself we are still waiting for the day to see another player like him.

The second is on the opposite spectrum from Magic. While Magic has no controversy surrounding him, this man does...Pete Rose. Today in 1982, the Philadelphia Phillie's' Pete Rose made his 12,365th career appearance at-bat, passing Hank Aaron - yes That Hank Aaron - to become the all-time leader in plate appearances. Rose was going to be "inducted" to Philly's Wall of Fame a week or so ago, but the rise of his rape accusations caused the organization to cancel that real quick.
