Attention, Attention!! A real-life sports phenomenon is replicating right now: The Ewing Theory

in #sports7 years ago

As we speak the Boston Celtics are doing not once, but twice, what sport bookies would consider an extreme anomaly. But perhaps what these bookies overlooked is something called the Ewing Theory.

What's the Ewing Theory? Where did it come from?
The theory was created in the mid-'90s by Dave Cirilli.

The Boston Celtics who got annihilated on homecourt in both games 1 and 2 at TD Gardens arena. In the process they lost their best player, point guard Isiah Thomas.

Any reasonable logical human, sports fan or not, would subsequently deduce that this would lead to an even worse fate as the series shifted to Cleveland for games 3 and 4. While it looked that way half way through game 3, something odd happened. The Celtics, without their leading scorer and court general, had to suddenly find new ways to generate offense and score. So what happened? they started moving the ball and spreading the offense to all players. Now as everyone got more touches the teams started to gel, gained confidence, and ultimate won game 3 at the buzzer.

Precisely what happened when Ewing was subtracted from the New York Knicks offense in the 90's.

One off? Not quite, even though bookmakers and smart money suggested so.
As 17 point favourites the Cavs find themselves down 10 points half way through game 4.

Truly incredible. The Patrick Ewing theory in full effect.
