Building An All Time NBA Super Team

in #sports7 years ago (edited)

It never fails, whenever me and my family get together we discuss sports. Here in Kentucky we love many sports, but our favorite is basketball, so naturally we're always talking about whos the best ever. One of our favorite subjects is building a "super team", one thing I added to make it more difficult was we could only use one draft class to build this team. The younger family members always choose the 96, or 03 draft class, and yes there is a lot of talent in those draft classes, but I always choose the 1984 draft class, and heres why.

Lets start here, the greatest ever. I don't know if we will ever see another player like Jordan, he took over a game like no one else could. He could go around you, shoot over you, or just fly above you. Many have been compared to Jordan, Kobe and Lebron most recently, who happen to come from the 96 and 03 drafts and while both players will be remembered as greats, they won't be the greatest. I know Lebron has a few more years, but I don't see him passing Jordan.

One of the greatest big men to ever play the game, and some would say the best. On the low block he was unstoppable, he had so many post moves that you could take away one option, but he had countless others, that along with his size, strength and athletisism made him a handful for anyone. On the defensive side he was even better, he is the all-time block leader for a reason.

John Stockton

The all time assist leader, and one of the best floor generals the game has ever seen. He wasn't the most athletic, but he had a way of finding the open man. He was a good defender also, and is at the top all time in steals. I know many overlook Stockton when talking about point guards, but he is one of the best ever and without him I'm sure the mailman would have failed to deliver on several occasions.

Charles Barkley

Charles Barkley is one of the best power forwards ever, a decent defender, great rebounder and an offensive juggernaut. He only stands 6'4", but he played alongside some of the giants and held his ground. With the ball in his hand he had so many weapons, he was a good shot, a pretty good passer, and with his wide frame and strength he could back you down and work for his shot.

He never played a game in the NBA, but he was drafted in the 6th round of the 84 draft by the Nets. He was a great scorer, in the 88 summer Olympics he averaged 42.3 PPG, which is amazing. We never got to see him in the NBA, but in the 1987 Pan American Games he played against David Robinson, Danny Manning, Dan Majerle, Rex Chapman and scored 46 points leading Brazil to a 120 to 115 win.

I know the 96 and 03 drafts were filled with talent, but the 84 draft had 4 of the 50 greatest of all time, and 4 of the best players at there position ever. If you could build your super team what draft class would you use?

I was using the 1984 draft only and Bird was drafted in 78

oh. I'm really a fan and just thought some of them here also played long enough time ago.☺

Yea, they played in the same era

Jordan was a very very unique player until Kobe showed up.Kobe however can never really be looked of as better and so many his skills i.e. fade-away we modeled after Jordan. But in terms of shooting the basketball Kobe clearly had deeper range

Kobe was an amazing player! I wished he could've stayed healthy, but toward the end his body broke down.
