Triathlon season kick off : SportEvents Triathlon Series Herderen
The season is knocking on our door. And the season is ready to come in with a bang. It has become a yearly habit to kick it off at Herderen. We'd like to take you along for a ride to last year's edition and create expectations for coming Sunday. Whether our expectations are going to be is up to the athletes.
2017 protagonists
Last years race was from start to finish dominated by flat tyres and the Tank from Wuustwezel, Stenn Goetstouwers. After exiting the water with a small gap, he was being chased by a Trinity-collective composed from David De Grooff and Hans Verbist, along with former-Trinity Wouter Van Der Mast and Nick Thijs. Eventually Wouter had to settle for second, David came third.
The women's race was an up-and-over by Sandra Schenkel. The former-elite runner had to bridge a gap after the swim on Sweta Meersman and Ines Van Troyen, but did so in style. Sandra took the win, Sweta came second and Ines, after serving a nightshift at the hospital, had to settle for third.
Edition 2018
There is not much left from the protagonists of last year's race. Nick Thijs and Wouter Van Der Mast will be present, but that's about it. Other names to look forward to are Sven Van Luyck, last year plagued with a flat tyre, Jens Van Looveren, Adam Lambrechts, Yorben Verboven in his multiple national jersey and Jelle Clijsters.
The female protagonists are also very much absent, leaving room for young but eager names. We look forward to seeing a head to head between Hanne De Vet and Jolien Vermeylen.
Traditionally, start is given at 10Hr at the swimming pool at Bilzen, at 15Hr the bike and run-leg will take place in a chase formula.
