A new Fluffy Tiger set for Comeback

After almost 4 years out due to injury, The Big Cat is set to make his latest comeback. Tiger Woods announced his return at the Hero World Championship this week, in a move guaranteed to excite journalists looking for an all expenses paid trip to Bermuda for what is, without the great man, a pretty meaningless event.

And the good news is that it seems like Tiger will be coming back as a much more cuddly, fluffy cat rather than the miserable, sulking aging beast, we’ve grown to know over the past few years.

His public persona seems to be undergoing a marked change in the run up to what could possibly be the last comeback he makes. Firstly, in a very un-Woods-like move, the press release detailing Tiger’s inclusion in a field that he personally hand picks included a joke. A joke! From Tiger Woods! Whatever next?

“I’d like to thank the committee of 1 (ie Woods) for picking myself” he chortled.

Heady stuff from one of golf’s most serious and private individuals, and not something the public has been used to in the last 20 years or so.
Also, recently, Woods was seen with a new girlfriend, anice looking young restaurant manager. Miss Herman, 33, is unheralded, not famous, and all in all seems a perfectly normal person, something that Tiger perhaps has been missing for a while. There was no press release, no statements about happiness, just 2 people looking comfortable together.

And the normally shy and private Tiger openly courted Miss Herman at the Presidents Cup, where Woods was serving as an assistant captain for the American side. They were seen holding hands on the course at Liberty National Golf Club, where Herman sported a "player spouse" credential that is usually reserved for significant others.

And then, finally, in another move that would have sent a younger, more serious Woods into shivers, he has been releasing videos of his swings to the general public. In a move that nearly broke the golf internet, a video of his famous stinger shot had men of a certain age come over all funny watching it on repeat.

It's all a far cry from his arrest in May this year. He was found by officers unconscious in his Mercedes-Benz, which was parked awkwardly on the side of the road with damage to the driver’s side. A Police Report concluded that he had 5 different types of drugs in his system.

So, hopefully with his injury nightmare behind him, and his personal problems a thing of the past, we might get to see a new Tiger era. One where he attempts to mould himself on the likes of previous greats such as Palmer and Nicklaus, who became Grandees of the game, loved by all irrespective of how they played.

A relaxed, happy, stinger playing Tiger who wants to be loved, and moves on to Ryder Cup Captaincy, coaching, course design and much more. Let’s hope so, as Tiger playing competitively is great for golf, even if he doesn’t win.
