CAN CONOR McGREGOR BEAT FLOYD MAYWEATHER? POSSIBLE OR IMPOSSIBLE.

in #sports7 years ago (edited)

If you listen to the boxing experts and to the collective voice of the boxing community, then you will be met with a screaming, roaring choir of voices that almost seems to chant in unison, a deafening "NOT A CHANCE".

If you listen to the die hard Conor McGregor fans, then its already in the bag, and McGregor is the new undisputed pound for pound king of boxing.

THE TRUTH

The truth of the answer, though short and simple, is a little more complicated, but that answer, as crazy as it sounds is yes, McGregor can win. If forced to give his monumental task a name, I would most likely call it mission highly improbable, but believe it or not, it is possible.

How many times have we heard the so called experts tell us a thing can't be done because it is impossible, only to watch in awe and wonder as some brave, defiant soul stands tall and proves them all wrong. You would think that the experts would have learned their lessons by now, for there are plenty of examples to learn from.

EXAMPLES

Flight was impossible said the experts, so the Wright brothers flew.
Muhammed Ali had no chance against the giant George Foreman "he's too big and too strong", so Muhammed knocked him out.
Buster Douglas could never beat Iron Mike Tyson, and the new champion of the world, that's right, Buster Douglas.

HISTORY

Look through the annuals of history and it is littered with amazing individuals who have slain that beast called impossible. Look to the future, and similar individuals are planning to conquer currently thought to be impossible feats. Conor McGregor, may, or may not be one of those individuals, but make no mistake, he has a huge mountain of a task set before him, for as much as you may dislike Floyd as a man, or even dislike his style of boxing, one thing is undeniable, Floyd Mayweather is one of the most gifted boxers ever to grace the squared ring.

TRUMPS

Mayweather is going to trump McGregor in almost every aspect, speed, footwork, accuracy, experience, intelligence (when it comes to boxing), defence, tactics, timing and adaptability. To add further insult to injury, Mayweathers team is a strong, experienced, well oiled boxing machine that has been together for many years, and possesses a unmeasurable wealth of boxing knowledge. Some of the aforementioned skills are the same skills that make McGregor so effective in MMA.
The only advantages McGregor might have that I can see, is his strength, his power and his youth.

THE BIG IF!

If McGregor is to have any chance of winning, in my opinion he can use one tactic and one tactic only. He needs to take the boxing out of the fight, drag Mr. Mayweather into the trenches. Make it dirty. Make it gritty and make it bloody. If Conor can manage to do this, and it is a big if, the task is still not a done deal, because as much as the naysayers like to nay, the fact of the matter is, is that Floyd is one hell of an inside fighter who has forgotten more about boxing than Conor is most likely ever to know. He knows and has perfected every trick in the great book of pugilism.

I haven't seen a lot of Conor McGregor, maybe five or six fights (so I don't claim to be an expert) but from the footage I have seen, he doesn't appear to be an aggressive swarming fighter, he is a counter puncher, and that style of fighting never seems to fair well against Floyd. It is usually the stronger, bigger men who have the intensity to impose their will, that have in the past given Floyd the most trouble.

So to finish let me reiterate my position. It is highly improbable that McGregor can cause the upset, but not beyond the realms of possibility.

Good luck to both fighters and their fans, lets pray for a safe outcome and lets hope for a fight that lives up, in part, to the hype.
