Picture of the day - Mads Ostberg and his Citroen

in #sports7 years ago

Hi, Steemers!

Mads Ostberg used to be a works Citroen driver for two seasons and he said that those two years were the only one when he was paid for his driving in WRC. That statement tells you all: his whole career he had to buy WRC cars or pay for a drive. He started as a co-driver to his father Morten and then they bought Subaru Impreza WRC from Prodrive and that was the car that brought Mads under the lights of WRC.

He drove Subaru cars for years, even after they pulled out of WRC. And then in 2011 with the new FIA regulations that new WRC cars must have 1.6 turbo engine he continued to drive with Ford as a privateer and in Portugal he scored his only win (after the previous leader was excluded before of technical irregularities).

After some years with Ford as a privateer he signed a two years contract with Citroen and that was it. He drove one season for M-Sport after that but I don't know if he had to pay for a drive or he drove for free.

Last season he bought his private Ford Fiesta WRC 2017 and that was the first private 2017 WRC car that was sold to anyone.

At the start of the season exceptional news came to me: Mads Ostberg will drive for Citroen in Sweden!?! I really don't know if he had to pay for it or no but the 6th place wasn't bad result for him after all.
