Russia under suspicion: his performance in the World Cup opened a controversy over doping

The host country of the 2018 World Cup is in the eye of the storm after various sources doubt its honesty. The Russian team is under suspicion of doping, as a result of its impressive physical performance in the great World Cup: according to official statistics, it ran much more than its rivals.

Different media from different parts of the world, such as Spain, Brazil or England, among others, question the whole of Stanislav Cherchésov, despite the fact that FIFA assured that the players were investigated and there were no results to feed those doubts.

In Moscow, the Russians debuted in the World Cup with a big win against Saudi Arabia in the opening match (5-0). Later, in his second game, they scored three goals against Egypt, however it was not only the results that gave the talk, but also the physical prowess: 118 and 115 kilometers. They were the most run throughout the World Cup.

In turn, the Russian team came to the tournament as the worst country in the tournament, in the 70th place, and in the last European Championship played a role for oblivion, being eliminated in the first round, with 1 point.

The British portal Mail On Sunday, was one of the first to ensure that FIFA covered up doping cases of Russian footballers. FIFA, however, denied any kind of accusation, but from England they said they have proof and even a name: Ruslan Kambolov, who joined the preliminary list and ended up being excluded from the latter.

Richard Pound, former president of the World Anti-Doping Agency, stressed that "they should have done an independent investigation, FIFA is an institution that never had a strong anti-doping policy."

The director of the US anti-doping agency, Travis Tygart, also planted doubts: "It would be naive to think that Russia will not violate anti-doping rules during the World Cup," he told The Guardian newspaper, adding: "Russia should not harbor this event, because clearly it has violated the rules ".

FIFA continues in its line to ensure that there is no problem whatsoever and, in its latest communiqué, they affirmed that they raised "every last stone" in the investigation, without finding abnormal results.

Stanislav Cherchésov, coach of the Russian team that got into the quarterfinals to overcome Spain, said that the fact of having a good performance is due to the "motivation to play the World Cup with the support of the public." Now, Russia will face Croatia for a pass to the semifinals.
