He can play in any position in defence (including Centre Back – on occasions), and also holds down midfield roles effectively, when called upon. Experienced as a Left back and Left winger. Questions might arise as to why Manchester City were willing to let such experience and quality go, and for cheap too.

RICKIE’S TAKE - - (A fantastic signing) - - - - An intelligent and exceptional forward. He is your wickedly-gifted goal poacher, and doesn’t require lots of minutes to score goals. Tortures defenders with his invincible runs, little wonder he’s described as ‘the Fox in the Box’. Wonder why the much bigger teams in England didn’t capture him sooner?? Well, join the club. He's however, a great bargain for West Ham.

RICKIE’S TAKE - - (A fair deal) - - - - A club record fee for a defender, and an emerging talent. A young star with a huge price tag that comes with added pressure. One good season at Monaco and then, ‘zoom’, he’s off to Manchester City in England. He has a lot to prove in his position, as several greats have excelled at left-back in the English Premier League.
