For the record, the deadly duo formed one of the most powerful and devastating partnerships in Europe while in Borussia Dortmund, both of which won the German DFL-Supercup in 2014, a match in which each scored to beat Bayern Munich 2-0.

Mkhitaryan won the Bundesliga's Best Player of the season in his final year at Westfalenstadion while Aubameyang won the Bundesliga's top scorer with 31 goals last season. And if the pair can rediscover the form they showed while playing together in Germany, this is a good time for the north London club.

Played through on goal by former Borussia Dortmund teammate Mkhitaryan just before half-time, Aubameyang capped off his first appearance for Arsenal with a well-taken goal, despite replays showing the striker was offside. The goal made the Gabonese the sixth Arsenal player to score on their Premier League debut under Arsenal Wenger, and the eighth overall. Their presence should be wary of opponents. Maybe this will be a strong signal Arsenal will rise in the Premier League. Even so, we have to wait for the second game, to drop the judgment on Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan.

If their connections returned to fruition in the next game, surely this is a breath of fresh air for the Gunner supporters. And, Wenger can smile proudly.
