The Wild's 13-year, $98 Million Contract Playoff Curse

What is it about these contracts? When it comes to the playoffs, it truly is like they are cursed.

Since both Ryan Suter and Zach Parise signed their identical, 13 year, $98 million contracts on July the 4th 2012, the Minnesota Wild have advanced to the playoffs each season. But success hasn't come much further than that.

It was in 2016 when Zach Parise went down late in the season with a back injury. They got through the 1st round, but really lacked that star power that a Parise can provide in the 2nd round and limped out at the hands of Dallas.

Well the worst case scenario for Ryan Suter's broken fibula was realised today, as it was confirmed that the defenseman will require surgery that will put him out for the rest of the season. Yes, including the entire playoff run.

Boudreau said straight after the game Suter got injured that if you're not good enough to overcome it, then you shouldn't be in the playoffs in the first place and continued that just get on with it sentiment today:

"It's a blow, but it’s a chance for other people to step up, and for leaders to take the team on their back and show you can play through adversity. The greatest feeling of success is when people say you can’t do something. That’s where we’re at."

There is certainly no room for curses in a Bruce Boudreau coached team. It's all about just moving forward and getting it done now.

Let's play hockey.
