Minnesota Lose to ANOTHER Western Conference Team who will Miss the Playoffs

in #sports6 years ago

The Minnesota Wild's 3 game winning streak was unceremoniously snapped on the road by yet another Western Conference team who are destined to miss the playoffs this season. A far too familiar story for the Wild.

NHL superstar Connor McDavid bagged a brace and an assist to ensure the Edmonton Oilers sealed the 4-1 win last night. Draisaitl and once Wild target Nugent-Hopkins also got themselves on the scoresheet for an Edmonton side who although look destined to miss the playoffs, have now won 3 in a row.

It was a frustrating night for ex Edmonton goaltender Devan Dubnyk as the league's best player put on a clinic and a tired Wild defence just couldn't keep up.

The game was scoreless until the 2nd period, when it was McDavid who tapped in his own rebound to make it 1-0 and then scored again on the power play as he sniped it from the top of the circle after playing a part on both the power play units.

With momentum always in favour of the home side, the visiting Wild managed to pull 1 back through Charlie Coyle, but normal service soon resumed with Draisaitl's power play breakaway. The Wild had to push and they were caught out by a quality, fast skating team.

Nugent-Hopkins rounded off the scoring with an empty netter at the death.

Charlie Coyle's post-game words wrapped up the Minnesota performance nicely:

“That wasn’t our game in the second period tonightWe were turnin. g pucks over and we weren’t skating and playing simple, which is our recipe for success. We kind of stopped doing that and fed right into their game.”

The Wild now welcome the Colorado avalanche to the Xcel Energy Centre on Tuesday night and after embarrassing them on the road, a better performance is going to be needed at home.

Minnesota certainly have the home form, now let's see if they can get it done.

You still can’t help but admire McDavid for what he can do. Deadly.

What's going on with Edmonton? Have they been facing a lot of injuries? McDavid is one of the best players in the last 20 years, they should be making the post season easily by now.

And he’s not their only weapon 1st overall pick that they’ve accumulated either. Shows that you need more than just kids not with unbelievable attacking talent to win NHL games.
