BLOG: Wild Prospect Kirill Kaprizov Ties Game as CSKA Goes on to Win 5 OT Epic

in #sports6 years ago

Do you remember Minnesota Wild prospect, Kirill Kaprizov? The Russian kid that won Olympic gold for Russia?

The forward who plays for CSKA Moscow in the KHL has unfortunately signed a 3 year contract extension with the club, meaning he most likely wont be leaving Russia for the NHL before 2020. Now I say most likely, because in modern sport, contracts mean jack shit, especially across multiple countries.

Kaprizov scored the game tying goal for CSKA in their KHL playoff game against Finnish club Jokerit. He threw a backhander on goal from his knees and slotted it past the helplessly unexpecting goaltender to sent it to OT.

The game then went on to take 5, YES 5! OT periods to find a winner, putting it into the books as the longest KHL game ever played.

I can't find Kaprozov's game tying goal on YouTube and I don't think Steemit supports embedding Tweets yet, so here's the video of the OT winner:

Mika Niemi of CSKA Moscow scores at 142.09, sets KHL all time record:

You've gotta feel for the losing goaltender after that. Hockey is a savage game sometimes.

Kaprizov tied for the CSKA team lead in scoring during the regular season, scoring 40 points in 46 games. He also led the team in assists with 25.

Come to Minnesota Kirill. The NHL will suit you just fine!

Do you think he’s actually ever going to come to NHL or is life too easy in Russia for a star like him?

He'll come eventually.

...I hope.
