Wild About to Sit Idle, Trying to go into Break with Momentum
With the Minnesota Wild finding themselves heading into a 4 day break in the schedule, today's game against LA becomes even more key. Hockey is all about momentum and managing your team's highs and lows and how they manage this period will be key.
While the Wild will get a break to work on things in training and repair their battered bodies, the rest of the Western Conference will continue to play and have the opportunity to accrue points. Of course everyone plays the same amount of games, but the Wild wouldn't be human if they didn't scoreboard watch and feel the pressure of not even having the opportunity to respond.
This aspect of the season isn't lost on coach Bruce Boudreau, who knows that even though his team is in form, all their hard work can so easily be undone with one poor performance.
“Anytime we’re not playing, other teams are gaining. This seems to be the year when there’s 10 teams in the race so, I mean, somebody is winning."
"Like always, we have to put a string together. You know, winning two and losing one is not the right formula for success.”
The Wild are currently perched in 3rd place in the Central Division, holding a 3 point gap on the Avalanche and a 5 point gap on the Stars who continue to lose tight games themselves. They both however have the advantage of playing twice before the Wild come out of their break.
Maintaining momentum with a win against the Los Angeles Kings will no doubt be key.
We'll be watching with interest.
