Canelo Vs. Chavez - Applying Some Critical Thinking To Tonight's Big Fight.
Does size matter?
A lot of Canelo's career has been spent at the lower weights compared to Chavez, and he is now venturing North for the first time. Size does matter further on down the line sometimes in a tough fight, and this is the first time that Canelo will be the smaller man in the fight. But as we all know it ain't the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog on the day itself.
Both weighed in at 164lbs
Both men made weight at 164lbs, and some reckon the bigger Chavez may come in as high at 180lbs. That is only 10lbs below me! I'm a cruiserweight weight at 190lbs on a good day.
Canelo may not have height on his side, he does have age on his side being the younger fighter. Canelo has also faced some big names like Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto etc. unlike Chavez.
Chavez looks to me the best he has in his whole career, and with a new trainer he will not be fearful of Canelo. He will be looking to make it a scrap early on to tire out the smaller man.
All these stats make the perfect storm for me, and tonight we might see one of those FOTY candidates. As I've said in previous boxing articles, I expect Chavez to lose some of the earlier rounds to Canelo, but I expect the bigger man to win further on down the home straight. My fight prediction is a Chavez win by SPLIT DECISION.
