Martial Arts Training Log - June 14th '19
Today was pretty good fun kickboxing. I trained pads with my friend for about an hour and finished up with half an hour on the heavy bag.
On the pads we worked short boxing combinations, mostly 2 and 3 hit combos. Then after a little while worked on blocking and countering with the same 2 and 3 hit combos. We added a few elbows into some of the combinations just to keep them ready at that range.
Fitness felt pretty good and my shoulder was holding up well when holding pads and my friend can really bang! He's about 25lbs heavier than me and works as a builder so he's really strong!
He left and I stuck around working the heavy bag on my own. I trained 90 second rounds with 30 second rest and each boxing round was split up in 3 x 30 second segments. 1 non stop hitting, 1 short combos, 1 single power shots.
I've got a video explaining and demonstrating the workout here:
I got out 10 rounds today on my own which is excellent progress if you consider it was both after an hour on the pads, plus in the video from 2017 I did 5 rounds on camera and it was tough!
My left wrist was a little sore when some of my power shorts were off but it wasn't a huge problem. With more training I'll get the accuracy back that I need. I shattered my wrist when I was 14, and the way it reset is offline, so my punches have to be perfect or I can hurt myself! My forearms were extremely tight but that#s normal after such intense pad training too. I massaged them out with a rolling pin lol, it felt amazing!
I'll most likely have all of tomorrow off training to recover and I'll be on it again on Sunday. I plan to do a mixture of light cardio and weight training.
Hope your training is going well too!
