Should Demetrious Johnson Take The T.J. Dillashaw Fight? 👊🏻steemCreated with Sketch.

Demetrious Johnson had turned down the fight with 135 lb'er TJ Dillashaw. Dillashaw, who was suppose to fight for the 135 lb belt, the fight since cancelled, offered to go down a weight class and fight Demetrious Johnson. This caught the ears of a bunch of MMA fans, because that's one hell of a matchup, and also Demetrious Johnson next title defense will make history for most consecutive title defenses, but Demetrious Johnson turned down the fight. And listed way to many reasons, for it to not come across as a little sketchy. From the outside looking in, it sounds like he is scared and just wants to get the record.. but that might not necessarily be the case

  • Mighty Mouse came out in an interview and stated that he originally asked the UFC for the 135 champ Cody Garbrandt. Mighty Mouse was told that fight wouldn't sell, and that he needs to fight Ray Borg (2 fight win streak + plus missed weight in 2 of last 5 fights)
  • Mighty Mouse accepted the Ray Borg fight, and was also told he would not be getting PPV buys percentage, due to him not being a big enough draw. (Stated he can have PPV buys if he reaches an unreachable amount of PPV buys) Then when 135 Champ CG got injured, the T.J. VS D.J. Fight emerged. And D.J. Quickly turned it down. Mighty Mouse stated it was too much of a risk that T.J. Wouldn't make the 125 lb weight, so he couldn't break his title defense record. Then Dana White said D.J. Didn't have a choice, and that he will be fighting D.J.
  • Mighty Mouse still refused and gave about 5 different reasons why. Money, weight, Ray Borg, PPV buys, etc. When someone makes so many excuses to fight somebody it comes off as sketchy. If Mighty Mouse is the P4P Champ he says he is, then take the fight right? Well Mighty Mouse is saying he isn't getting the proper promotion and respect he deserves. Well, UFC brass is looking over him because He is the lowest watched champion in headliner, Mighty Mouse thinks it's due to promotion, but there are literally fans walking out of the arena when his fight starts. (I love watching his fights, he is a very exciting fighter to watch, his competition though, is nowhere near up to par)
  • Mighty Mouse then claimed that Dana White said, if you don't take this fight, then Dana White will scrap the whole 125lb division. ( I can actually see this happening)

My Thoughts:
Demetrious needs to realize he isn't the biggest draw, the non die hard fans don't fantasize about watching 5ft humans throw semi powerful strikes at each other, and it's ridiculous, but it's the truth. Demetrious is far superior to his competition at 125 lbs, that's not his fault, but he needs to realize that's why people are pissed he isn't taking the one fight he may face a challenge. Now for the money issue, he is doing what he loves and is getting paid about 5-8 times the amount of a normal American Citizen. He should be blessed instead of pissed that bigger draws are making more money. UFC is now an entertainment business, which I don't agree with, but it's the truth. If you don't draw, you do t get paid. And that is what I think is making UFC slowly go downhill. The champions should get paid the most, plain and simple. But god damn man, take the T.J. Fight, it'll give you the exposure you're looking for, which will bring the money you're looking for. If he isn't hesitant about his record he's about to break, I don't see why he doesn't take the fight. He's a fighter, fight. He shouldn't even have a choice, when I show up to work, I don't get to tell my boss what jobs I want to do.
Come on man. I can see from both sides of the fence on this one, but I'm leaning for the fight to happen. It's the only one that makes sense. The division is so weak, that Ray Borg is the next contender. Something needs to change.

DJ has to fight or he's NOT the GOAT, I don't want to see any other fight in that division, I won't even watch one for free online... But I would pay to see DJ vs. TJ!

I agree, he'd gain so much more respect if he takes this fight. I believe the odds are in his favor too, but Itd definitely be his most challenging fight yet at 125. And people would watch!

Hopefully the fight happens! I was looking forward to Cody vs TJ but now this one beats that. DJ seems like he wants to break the record by playing it safe.

I agree, that's what it seems like to me.

I have read your blog. Wanna fight with me. Haha
