How to pick a good sport for a kid? Should a parent go with what the kid wants, what their age is appropriate for, what is trendy at the moment, what is the best way to go about it?

Participating in a sport requires a lot. Not only you volunteering yourself (responsibility), but also self-discipline for both the child and the parent is a vital tool.

Frequent Practice after school schedule (at home), dedication and commitment (arriving at the training ground on time), being active while practicing, and keeping track of equipment, are all means of sacrificing one’s time and showing interest in what you love doing. I don’t know if you agree with the fact that “Sports can be a good teacher that improves personal responsibility sometimes?” But, this (sport) has helped me a lot.

HOW TO PICK A GOOD SPORT FOR YOUR KID

1. Introduce your Child to a Variety of Sports

Although, it is quite obvious that a child's interest in a given sport is the best determinant to see if a child will enjoy a sport as a participant. So picking a good one for your child might be challenging, but by exposing the child to a wide variety of sports will make such child gather experiences, then make it easy for the parent to choose the best fit for their child.

Watching various sports on the television is a good introduction, by doing this your child will eventually fall for one. Through this, you will be able to discover the sport he/she loves watching most. Talk with your child asking him/her about what he/she likes and dislikes about each sport. When you ask with love, you will surely get a lovely reply.

2. Try Multiple Sports

Once you have narrowed down to a few different sports that you seem your child enjoys watching, then it’s time to try them. You should avoid playing all the games in the trial in a single season. I will advise you have them play soccer in the spring, volleyball during winter and football in the fall. With vigilance, you can see which one is best for him. If he insists on the sport you know he lags behind his co-mates during training, try and convince him for the one you think he was exceptional, please do not pick out of greed for a trending sport. Forcefully picking a sport for your child just because you excelled will usually backfire.

3. Be vigilant

Now, it’s your turn to watch for signs of enthusiasm in your child, see if you can filter by picking which of the sports seem “the most interesting” to him/her.

Maybe he/she will talk about the players, share a name with the players; kids love to be called by celebrity’s name. Listen to your child’s view on sports while discussing with friends (with his friends)

4. Find out Preference

It’s so simple; your child must have the sport he/she loves most. Ask, and you shall know.

5. Match the Sport to Your Child's Body Type

After you discovered your child’s preference, then with your intuition, maybe by consulting professionals or introducing your experience; choose the game that is perfect for your child’s body shape. A short and stocky child might be the perfect candidate suited to football than basketball. In which, a tall and lanky should work better for basketball or track and field.

Age and sports

I think with what sport is speaking nowadays, it is best you use the formula “catch them young.” if I were you, my child will start as early by two. Although he might be too young to join a team, playing with a sporting tool is an appropriate strategy to involve him/her right from childhood.
