imho that is a pretty ignorant statement. The world will never be without weapons, be it knives, guns, explosives, or fists. Only the ignorant choose to be victims rather than defend themselves.
Do you know what police call people that report a violent crime?
A victim.
Why? Because the police can't protect you. Quit living in a dream world and look at reality and facts. The police only respond to crimes to take a report from "the victim". They are almost never able to "prevent" a crime. Look at the real statistics of how many people protect themselves every day using a "weapon" vs. those that allow themselves to become victims, like sheep to the slaughter.
You want to stop school shootings and other mass shootings? Then help fund mental health programs, stop the bullying in schools that leads to these responsive actions, and let those that are willing defend themselves and others from these people with serious mental illness.
It's not the weapons, it is the mental state of those using them, or vehicles, or poison, or other tools at their disposal to act on their impaired thinking.

In fact this 1995 study shows that there are between 2.2 and 2.5 MILLION defensive gun uses annually. Do you prefer all those people to be rape, assault, robbery, and murder victims instead?
Think how different the outcome would have been in these mass shootings if one legally armed civilian had taken out the mentally ill person after the first shot, instead of waiting for minutes or hours for police response? How many lives could have been saved?!

Yes, that will prevent more victims, but I thought there would be no shooting if there were no weapons. It's certainly much better..but that might be just a different perspective..no problem ;)
Really? It's that kind of impaired thinking that causes the problem. Is that what you would tell the poor woman in New Jersey that was stabbed to death by her Ex husband while waiting for her gun permit to protect herself? Is that what you would tell her children and family? Please people, look at the real facts around safe gun use and how often it is used by people to defend themselves from rape, murder, robbery, beatings, and worse. Yes there are a few psycho's running around that do bad things, but we need to punish the bad people doing bad things, not strip lawful owners from protecting themselves and others.
