Sultan Azlan Perak's 34th Sultan
During school, he played field hockey
He was trained as a lawyer in the United Kingdom. He returned to Malaysia and was soon appointed as a judge
In 1965 he became the youngest recipient of the Malay High Court.
After his uncle died in 1984, Azlan Shah became Perak Sultan. Azlan Shah is known as the father of Malaysian hockey.
Azlan is president of Malaysia Hockey Federation until 2005.

And from 1997 until his death as president of the Asian Hockey Federation.
Under Azlan Shah's leadership, Malaysia hosted World Cup twice in 1975 and 2002

The Sultan Azlan Shah Cup is being conducted since 1983.
It is held every year.
