How a short-term injury to LSU's Leonard Fournette could help the Tigers long-term

in #sports8 years ago

LSU coach Les Miles told members of the media that Heisman hopeful Leonard Fournette suffered a "minor"ankle sprain in the Tigers scrimmage on Tuesday. Caused by a teammate falling on the back of the RBs leg.

In 2015 Fournette was 3rd in the country in rushing yards and 5th in attempts. The Tigers offense depended mainly on Leonards production thanks to poor QB play. Once/If opposing defenses slowed down LSUs running game the offense became very stagnant. They have NFL talent returning on the offensive side for 2016 with a massive offensive line and Malachi Dupre on the outside at WR.

Les Miles has historically struggled to find consistency from his QBs during his time in Baton Rouge. Harris has shown flashes that he can play and be what LSU needs to make this years playoff. With last year under his belt the deer in the headlights look that the QB showed last year should be in the past. Obviously a Fournette injury isnt ideal for LSUs offense but maybe having him out of a few practices(hopefully) is what Brandon Harris needs to get comfortable without being so dependant on the Heisman candidate. If Harris can get in his comfort zone and not look so lost when Fournette takes a play off the Tigers will be a real threat in 2016.
