Wimbledon - Men's Semi Final Day

Today I had the chance to experience the Wimbledon Championship for the first time with a ticket for the Men's Semi Finals on Centre Court.

First up was Marin Cilic against Sam Querrey. Two hard hitters facing up to one another the first set went on serve throughout with no break points. The tie break eventually went to Querrey 8-6. The second set continued on serve until Cilic broke Querrey and served out to take the set 6-4. Both players broke early in the third set but this went to a tie break again, Cilic coming through 7-3. In the fourth set Querrey had an early break but Cilic levelled at 4-4 and with a third tie-break looming broke again to take the set and the match 7-5.

Next on court was Roger Federer against Tomas Berdych. Whilst the crowd had appreciated the first semifinal they turned the volume up with Federer on court. Federer immediately put pressure on Berdych but after gaining an early break he was then broken back after a couple of double faults. The set went to a tie break which Federer won 7-4. There were no breaks of serve in the second set with both players hitting done amazing winners. Federer again took the tie break 7-4. In the third set Berdych had 2 break points which Federer cleared with 2 aces. He then crucially broke Berdych in the next game. From there Federer went on to win the set and match 6-4.

In the final I believe that based on the standard of play today, Federer will win his record 8th Wimbledon title.

After the singles had finished we were treated to an extra match of mixed doubles featuring the top seeds Jamie Murray and Martina Hingis against Mecelino Demoliner and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez. The standard of play from both sides was superb although Murray and Hingis took the first set easily 6-2 and then won the match 7-5 in the second
