Draftkings Week 9 Bargain Players

in #sports6 years ago

Last week I fell victim to playing Brees on the road at under 6k. I figured his floor would be better than most ceilings in his price range, but he surely disappointed with fantasy production with the saints putting up 30. And none of the wide receivers outside of diggs hit in my lineups. Thankfully I played all cash games last week and some of my lineups were saved by playing Gurley, Connor, and Lindsay. I don't play for big bucks or anything anyway, I just love the process.

Last Weeks Picks

Brees - 7.8
Lindsay - 20.2
DJ - 14
Diggs - 30.9
J Brown - 5.8
A Robinson N/A
V McDonald - 7.7
Steelers - 7

I feel like a dope not recommending Marlon Mack vs Oakland last week. Lindsay was an easy to see free square, but the hope DJ would crush San Francisco was clouding my judgement 🤣.

On to week 9……Between the byes and the matchups this week looks a bit tough

QB - Alex Smith $5000 vs Atlanta

Smith has reverted back to his former self this season, dinking and dunking his way to a 5 and 2 record with the help of a rejuvenated Adrian Peterson and an under rated defense. Even though smith isn't fantasy's most exciting plays he's often been incredibly safe not turning the ball over much and having some rushing yards along the way. This week's matchup vs the Falcons weak defense on the road, should bring more of the same for Smith, with some added touchdown upside. Atlanta currently has the leagues 2nd worst pass defense, and outside of week 1 vs Philadelphia have allowed a QB 1 performance in every game this season. Smith's ceiling may be capped if the skins can take a quick early lead and decide to run the clock, but even then in the 5k range you won't find a matchup better than this. For a few hundred more you could also play Joe Flacco for against the Steelers.

RB - Phillip Lindsay $5500 vs Houston

Houston has been pretty strong this year against opposing running backs but so far this season Lindsay has been a key component to the Broncos attack. With Royce Freeman expected to be out for the next couple weeks there is zero threat of Lindsay losing any touches over the next few weeks. The Broncos were still committed to a shared backfield last week with Devontae Booker receiving 14 touches, and even then Lindsay saw his highest touch count this season along with his best fantasy outing to date. It seems like Denver will try and keep working Freeman in where they can when he returns from injury, but until then I wouldn't expect Booker make up a lot of Freeman's usage outside of last week.

RB - Lamar Miller $5200 @ Denver

Miller has seen quite an increase in carries last 2 weeks in comparison to his previous 4 games that he played. Not sure if that had anything to do with DeShaun Watson's chest injury, which only seemed to limit his pass attempts and not his production. Or did it have to do with Miller's recent success vs Jacksonville? Whatever the case Miller has rebounded a lot since first joining the team and while not being the league's most exciting back, he owns the snap share by a wide margin. Denver has had one of the leagues worst rush defenses including 1 week where they gave up over 300 rushing yards to the Jets. They are currently ranked 7th worst vs running backs. Add in Houston losing Will Fuller for the year and Keke Coutee may be sidelined another week with a hamstring injury. If the Texans plan to limit Watson's attempts again this week, and with no other big weapons, Miller could have another great day.

WR - John Brown $5800 vs Pittsburgh

John Brown was a big letdown last week. The targets were there but he only managed to snag 3 receptions. Brown remains the teams target leader though and with his great yards per target and air yards he has a high probability to have great fantasy production each week especially given the pass attempts in Baltimore. Brown is most likely still under 6k due to his underwhelming performance. Against a Steelers secondary that can't contain when their D line can't get to the QB, I'd have no fear throwing Brown out again this week. The hope here is that Flacco can get back on his game and increase Browns catch rate.

WR - Devin Funchess $5600 vs Tampa Bay

This week is a very plus matchups for one of my favorite fantasy plays. Last weeks disappointing output was possibly to be expected with Greg Olsen returning, and facing a tough Baltimore defense. But week nine's floor could be the sky for Lunch against the leagues worst pass defense. The Bucs are allowing over 30 points a game, and have allowed teams to score in the red zone over 85% of the time, and give up more deep plays than any other team. Those stats really shine when we look at Funchess and his team leading 8 red zone targets, his top 20 air yards profile (350 total) and outside of last week he was seeing around 7 targets a game. All things considered, unless you are going to take a shot on DJ Moore's workload to increase, I'd take one of Cam's favorite targets (especially in the red zone) over the past 2 seasons in what should be another high scoring Bucs game.

WR - Paul Richardson $3800 vs Atlanta

If you are going to play Smith then you might as well stack his cheapest producing WR asset in this plus matchup. He's probably more of a tournament play based on his workload, but Atlanta is just behind Tampa in terms of bad pass defense, and while he's not tearing up the stat sheet he is seeing consistent usage with 5 targets a game and is making good use of his touches. Not sure you can find a better play for the money and matchup at WR this week.

TE - David Njoku $4600 vs Kansas City

I sort of wanted to go with Jordan Reed here at an awesome $4800. But I like the odds of Njoku rebounding from his 0 target game last week. Before that game and since Baker Mayfield has taken over Njoku had seen 7 targets a game and finding the end zone. With Hue Jackson and Todd Haley gone hopefully the Browns can really start to get on track and Utilize great talents like Njoku.

Defense - NY Jets $2500 @ Miami

This game could be low scoring with lots of sacks and turnovers and New York is the cheaper option of the two. New York isn't really excelling in any category. Their upside lies in playing Brock Oswiler.
