International Champions Cup: Barcelona beat Real Madrid

Barcelona beat Real Madrid 3-2 in the first friendly El Clasico since 1991 - and only the second meeting of the clubs outside Spain - to win the International Champions Cup.

Who other than Lionel Messi would open the scoring? Barcelona went up 1–0 on a driven shot in the box that took a friendly deflection and found goal. This came after a very brief injury scare for Neymar, who could be playing his final game in a Barcelona jersey.

In the seventh minute, Ivan Rakitic scored for Barcelona to make it 2–0 in a jiffy.

Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic cut the deficit with a pretty shot from outside the box to make it 2–1 in the 13th minute. Not much defense here.

And Madrid equalized in the 36th minute, with 21-year-old rising star Marco Asensio scoring a chippy goal after beating his defender in the box.

At half, the sides were tied 2–2. Gerard Pique put Barca up with a 50th minute goal and pretty finish off a set piece from Messi.

After full-time at the Hard Rock Stadium, the former Athletic Bilbao manager told fcbarcelona.es: "Those matches will be different - there is no such thing as a friendly against Real.

"My team started the game very well and I was happy with how they dominated proceedings.

"We had many chances to extend the scoreline further.

"It was an opportunity to see how great these players are, especially Messi who was extraordinary."
