A PROMISING 7.01 AND A SUB-7 MARK IN THE FINAL

When you see an athlete failing to qualify for the women's 60 metres final with a 7.10-seconds mark, then you know something special is to come...

Three heats had taken place about three hours before this evening's final and in each one of them a single athlete emerged as a clear contender for the medals: Murielle Ahouré and Marie-Josée Ta Lou from Ivory Coast and Mujinga Kambundji from Switzerland.

Going into the final, these athletes where alongside the the classical rivals Elaine Thompson and Dafne Schippers, but this night, that would't be the rivalry under the spotlight.

Actually, there was really no spotlight in anyone but one of the athletes from Ivory Coast: Ahouré!

With an incredible start from the blocks, there was never a doubt about who the gold medallist would be!

Stopping the clock at 6.97 seconds and becoming the 6th fastest runner in history, the 30-year-old led Ivory Coast to a 1-2 in the podium, followed by the Swiss Kambundji.
