SAY IT AINT SO...John Calipari Reaches Out To The New York KNICKS Expressing Interest In The President Position...

in #sports7 years ago

Just saw this. Not sure if this is true or fiction but according to ESPN reporter Ian Begley, John Calipari has reached out through his people to express interest in the New York Knicks vacant President of Operations position. Despite letting former president Phil Jackson go yesterday the Knicks contend they are not focused on the position but more so on the upcoming free agency.

Would Coach Cal be a good fit? He tried his hand in the NBA with the New Jersey Nets and FAILED miserable. However that was a long time ago. Would this position be only for the President or would it include coaching too? The Knicks currently have a coach...Jeff Hornacek

With all the success Calipari has had at the University of Kentucky, the prestige of running one of the most storied programs in the country, and the virtual FREE PASS he has earned being their coach...Why would Calipari want to leave?

The most he would make at NY would be $12 million a year. Perhaps a 5 year deal similar to Phil Jackson's for $60 million. Coach Cal currently makes $8 million per year and it is guaranteed over the next 7 years if he stays at Kentucky.

It doesn't make sense to me. But perhaps he is looking for a different challenge and the workload would be lighter. Could he be a good President? Maybe he would have a great impact attracting free agents a nice portion of NBA stars are former Kentucky players and he does have a good reputation among the younger players.

What do you think? What is sparking this desire to look at other opportunities? Should the Knicks consider it?

What's up man? Great post! I think he should stay at Kentucky. Why fix something that isnt broken? He has a great reputation at Kentucky and he is doing a great job there. I think he should stay. No one wants to be part of the Knicks right now hahahaha jk.

I agree @ericgordon, don't think it makes much since for Calipari to leave UK right now.

If Phil Jackson cant make the Knicks good, nobody can! Hahaha. Your a GOD at UK dont make the "Rick Pitino" mistake.

Yep...Pitino still regrets his decision to leave. Calling UK Camelot. Reminds me of when Saban left LSU for the Dolphins. He regretted it. Steady job security beats being unemployed in 3 years when your PRO team fires you... cough cough Chip Kelly
