For those of us Minnesota Vikings fans, history has not been kind. There were four Super Bowl losses in the 70's, five NFC Championship game losses including a couple in brutal fashion, getting knocked out of the playoffs on the last play of the season, and our kicker missing a chip shot field goal in the first round of the playoffs a couple years ago. Almost 60 years of getting oh so close but never getting it done. And in many cases, finding ways to snatch defeat out of the hands of victory. It's been a painful existence to be a Vikings fan but....we never give up. Which brings me to last night's game.
Case Keenum is a "back-up" quarterback who has been fighting the odds all his life as too short, too slow, and not a big enough arm. But yesterday, in one incredible moment, everything may have changed. For any of us who know football, what happened last night is nothing short of a miracle. This just doesn't happen in professional football. Especially in the playoffs against one of the best teams in the league. But it did.
The following is a video someone put together on YouTube and it was posted on the KFAN website (the local sports radio station in Minnesota). Case penned an article a few days ago about his journey from high school to where he is today and one of the talk show hosts (Dan Barreiro) read it on the air. The Youtube video is a montage of Case's journey played against the reading of that article. It's an incredibly well written piece and Barreiro does an excellent job reading it. The pictures and video at the end simply speak for themselves.
If you love the Vikings, football in general, or just an incredibly great story about a humble underdog making good, you should check this out because truly, in sports, it doesn't get any better than this.
All materials in the video are from the aforementioned places. YouTube, KFAN, and the video is from the NFL and Fox.
